Maestro de español

English is different from Spanish in 3 main ways:

  1. No genders! We don’t assign genders to our subjects and nouns. In English, there is no “ellos”, “ellas”, “nosotros” or “nosotras”. We simply say “they” and “we”.

No asignamos géneros a nuestros sujetos y sustantivos. En inglés, no hay "ellos", "ellas", "nosotros" o "nosotras". Simplemente decimos "they" y "we".

  2. No formal “you”! In English, we don’t have “usted” or “ustedes”. We simply just say “you” or “you guys" (we’ll review this later”

En inglés, no tenemos "usted" o "ustedes". Simplemente decimos "you" o "you all" (lo revisaremos más tarde ")

  3. Every sentence needs a subject! In Spanish, you don’t need to put the subject in the sentence. For example, you can say “voy a la escuela”, but in English, you MUST say “I go to school”.

En español, no es necesario poner el sujeto en la oración. Por ejemplo, puedes decir “voy a la escuela”, pero en inglés DEBES decir “I go to school”.

Pronunciation Practice!

The “Pronunciation” sections are meant to familiarize students with how to pronounce the vocabulary. Do not worry if you don’t understand all the words! / Las secciones de "Pronunciación" están destinadas a familiarizar a los estudiantes con cómo pronunciar el vocabulario. ¡No se preocupe si no comprende todas las palabras!

Bonus learning!

Bonus learning:

What did you notice about the verb “to be” in English? Well, in Spanish, speakers use ser v. estar in different contexts. In English, you don’t have to do that! “To be” can be used to describe both temporary feelings (estoy cansado) and permanent personality traits (Ella es inteligente).
