In this lesson, we will review the most important phrases for describing what time it is.

En esta lección, repasaremos las frases más importantes para describir qué hora es.

 
 

Understand the basics of time / Comprender los conceptos básicos

To say the time: Simply state the first number + the second number + AM or PM

AM = before noon (<12:00 pm)

PM = after noon (>12:00 pm)

Para decir la hora: simplemente diga el primer número + el segundo número + AM o PM

1:35 AM

1 = first number 

35 = second number

AM = indicates before noon

Say: "One thirty five AM"


6:51 PM

6 = first number 

51 = second number

PM = indicates after noon

Say: "Six fifty one PM"

Practice the following examples for the time period:

Dawn (the time just proceeding the sunrise)

1) 2:21 AM — “two twenty one AM”

2) 4:30 AM — “four thirty AM”

3) 5:45 AM — “five forty five AM”

Morning (usually considered 4 AM - 12:00 PM)

4:45 AM — “four forty five AM”

7:00 AM — “seven AM”

8:15 AM — “eight fifteen AM”

9:45 AM — “nine forty five AM”

Afternoon (usually considered 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM)

12:00 PM — “twelve PM”

12:04 PM — “twelve o’four" PM”

1:49 PM — “one forty nine PM”

2:34 PM — “two thirty four PM”

Evening (usually from 5:00 PM to 12:00 AM)

5:05 PM — “five o’five PM”

6:10 PM — “six ten PM”

8:52 PM — “eight fifty two PM”

Night (considered 8 PM - 3:00 AM)

11:36 PM — “eleven thirty six PM”

1:08 AM — “one o’eight AM”

1:03 AM — “one o’three AM”

2:28 AM — “two twenty eight AM”
