The Egyptian pyramids are ancient pyramid-shaped masonry structures located in Egypt. Most were built as tombs for the country's pharaohs and their consorts from roughly 2550 to 2490 B.C. During that time period, Egypt was one of the richest and most powerful civilizations in the world. Scholars believe that, at the peak, around 20,000 Egyptians were working to construct the pyramids.
