In English, participles (verbs that end with “-ing”) can be used as both verbs and nouns.

Verb usages:

  • I am listening to music.

  • He has been conducting the orchestra.

  • We were walking.

Participles follow the basic structure: Subject + to be + verb (ending with -ing)

Noun usages:

  • I like running.

  • He enjoys reading.

  • School is for learning.

  • The church is full of singing

  • He’s good at playing piano.

The prepositions — in, of, at, for — often require participle conjugations.
