Vocabulary to talk about Friends vs Work:
Different words have different connotations. We’re going to review the vocabulary words for “meetings”, “meet-up”, “meeting up with friends”, and “get togethers”.
“Meetings”: this word has a formal or business connotation, which means people often use it to describe things related to their job or formal matters
I have meetings with business clients.
I have meetings with my friends to discuss wedding preparations.
“To have meetings” usually implies a formal or business discussion.
“To meet up with someone” (verb idiom) - means to go to a place with someone
I met up with my friends after school to hang out.
I’m meeting up with my coworkers after work for Happy Hour at the bar.
I meet up with my friends on Saturdays.
These people met up at a bar.
“To get together” (verb idiom): this means to convene with people at a place
I’m getting together with my colleagues to discuss the upcoming deadline.
I get together with old friends every 3 weeks.
My friends and I get together in the park every Sunday.
