Examples:
The verb “to say” is very useful when talking about previous conversations or describing instructions or directions.
Recounting previous conversations:
So I saw Alicia in the park, and I say to her, “How are you?”
Then she says, “I am good”
Afterwards, my friend, Mark says, “I am glad you are doing well.”
Then she says, “Thanks, I have to leave, but I will call you later tonight”.
Describing instructions (including “to” + infinitives):
The instructions say to assemble the chair first.
The directions say to travel North.
The GPS system says to take a right turn.
Describing statements and preferences (using “that”):
The manager says that he works on Sunday.
The teachers says that the answer is 5.
I say that we go to school.
He says that we should read more.
